Alicia Keys, born Alicia Augello Cook on January 25, 1981, in New York City, is an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and actress. She began studying classical piano at age seven and attended the Professional Performing Arts School, graduating as valedictorian at 16. Keys signed with Columbia Records before transitioning to Arista Records, and later to J Records, where her career skyrocketed.

 

Her debut album, *Songs in A Minor* (2001), was a massive success, featuring the hit single “Fallin’,” and earning her five Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year. The album showcased her ability to blend classical piano with R&B, soul, and jazz influences. Keys followed up with several successful albums, including *The Diary of Alicia Keys* (2003), which earned her four more Grammy Awards, and *As I Am* (2007), featuring the hit “No One.”
